J. W. COFIELD SCHOLARSHIP

MINISTRY

The Goal of this ministry is to encourage Star disciples to pursue and continue their education by matriculating in accredited College, Bible or Vocational School, Seminary or University.


Graduating High school Senior & returning College Students may be eligible for a number of scholarship awards. 

Available Scholarship Awards

APPLICATION DEADLINE: 2ND SUNDAY, MAY

Prior to students receive any award,  proof of enrollment must be verified.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

General Star Award

Awarded to a High School senior who has been a member of the Star of Bethlehem

Baptist Church, for a minimum of one year before high school graduation.

● Attends the church and supports the church financially consistently.

● The student must be a participating member in at least one ministry of the church, and

he/she must attend and support activities of said ministry consistently.

● Complete a Biographical Essay (Minimum 500 words)

Lydia Murphy Incentive Award

No additional application is required to be considered for this award.

● A maximum of four (4) graduating High School seniors may be selected by the

Scholarship Ministry to receive this one-time award of $300.00.

● Student(s) will be selected for this award based on their church participation, and

whether they have gone above and beyond the standard church participation

requirements.

● The Scholarship Ministry reserves the right to not award this scholarship at any time

where no students were found to have met the standard.

Louis Van Jernigan High Academic Achievement

To be considered for this $1,000 award, the student must:

● Demonstrate ongoing involvement in at least one ministry of the church.

● Have achieved a combined SAT score ranking them in the 80th percentile or higher.

● Have a GPA of at least 85 on a scale of 1-100.

● An Official High School Transcript must be included. Complete the Release of the Official

Documents Form* and have it returned by your Guidance Counselor.

● Complete a Biographical Essay (Minimum 500 words)

LVJ Memorial Scholarship for High Academic Achievement

To be considered for this $500 award, the student must:

● Demonstrate ongoing involvement in at least one ministry of the church.

● Demonstrate ongoing involvement in at least one school/community service-oriented

organization.

● Complete a Biographical Essay (minimum 500 words)

Violet Marie Childs Award

To be considered for this one-time $500 award, the student must:

● Awarded to a Female High School senior who has been a member of Star of Bethlehem

Church, for a minimum of one year before high school graduation.

● Demonstrate good academic standing (provide a letter from a school counselor or transcript

noting such)

● Demonstrate ongoing involvement in at least one community/public service

organization.

● Complete an Essay on your commitment to serving the public (100-200 words minimum)
